Friendship, Fun, and Langkawi: A Visual Journey

Who would have thought that after 15 years of friendship, my best friend from school and I would finally plan a trip to Langkawi with our beloved husbands.

It felt surreal as we waited at the airport to check in for our flight to Malaysia. My dear friend from school, who had shared countless memories with me, and our wonderful husbands, who were as excited as we were, formed the perfect travel team.

Ready for takeoff!

About Langkawi

This beautiful island offers everything one could desire, scenic beaches, adventurous forest activities, delicious street food, rich culture, and iconic sightseeing spots.

Our Stay

We booked our stay at Hornbill Retreat in Pantai Cenang, Kedah, a serene nature retreat 10 km from Langkawi International Airport. Despite being located in the heart of nature, the retreat offered all the modern amenities we needed.

Things to do in Langkawi

3D Art in Paradise Langkawi

It is the biggest 3D Interactive Art Museum in Malaysia, with hundreds of interactive paintings. We can take fun interactive pictures and embrace our inner child. Initially, we weren’t too excited, thinking it was more for kids, but once we started taking photos, we were pleasantly surprised. We had a blast, shared plenty of laughs, and felt it was a fantastic start to our trip.

The attraction features nine themed zones, including Aquarium Zone, Safari Zone, Fantasy Zone, and The Dark Zone.

3D Art in Paradise’s opening hours are from 9.30 AM to 5 PM.

Sky Bridge

Sky Bridge is one of the world’s longest suspension bridges, measuring 125 m in length. The panoramic view from the top is breathtaking, featuring a dense forest and the sea.

View From SkyBridge

To reach the SkyBridge in Langkawi, we took the Langkawi SkyCab. The Skycab has six different gondolas to choose from. We decided on the glass-bottom gondola, allowing us to watch the forest beneath our feet.

To our surprise, it started raining when we reached the SkyBridge, which made the view even more spectacular. We loved the glass-bottom section on the bridge, where we admired the view below, and took pictures.

Night Market

Night markets in Langkawi are located in various spots around the island. The most renowned ones are held on Wednesday in Kuah and Thursday in Pantai Cenang. During our visit to Kuah Night Market, we found a wide selection of local clothing, accessories, and food. We bought the “I Love Langkawi” t-shirt here, which we planned to wear for our adventure trip the following day.

The food was just amazing, with various options to choose from. We tried most of them, like Murtabak (Thin roti filled with options such as chicken, beef, Nutella, and banana), seafood salad, and Ayam (Minced Chicken with Potato).

Langkawi Canopy Adventures

The highlight of our adventure was the Langkawi Canopy Adventures. It is currently closed, but other companies have similar activities. We were given a specific time for pickup, and true to their word, the team arrived promptly to take us to the adventure spot. The journey was a treat, offering glimpses of Langkawi’s lush landscapes.

Geared up for the exciting activities

After arriving, we were warmly greeted by a friendly guide who briefed us on what to expect and the precautions to follow. They provided us with a backpack containing all the necessary items for the adventure.

We weren’t particularly fit, so the thirty-minute trek to the top was exhausting. However, our excitement for what lay ahead kept us motivated. We were in the middle of a forest when we began our first obstacle course. We started with a 20 m Postman’s Bridge (walking on a wire rope). Since I had chosen this adventure, it seemed fair that I would start first, allowing others to observe and learn from any mistakes. Throughout, my friends encouraged me until I successfully reached the other side.

Once everyone completed the first obstacle, we moved on to the next challenge, a 10-meter Spiderweb climb. This involved climbing a rope attached to a tree. It was more challenging than expected, especially with our gear causing discomfort. Despite this, we moved on to the next obstacle, which was the 60-meter zipline. The zipline provided a thrilling experience as we glided, enjoying the forest view below.

Canopy Adventure

Finally, we tackled the 30-meter abseiling or rappelling. The four of us were thrilled and proud to have completed the adventure, feeling overjoyed with the achievement of this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Completed and Overjoyed: We did it!

As our departure approached, we were saddened to leave behind the wonderful memories we had created, yet we knew this trip would be unforgettable and cherished forever.
